Redaction ... Cool New Word Tool!
August 18, 2005

Happy Thursday, all! Just a quick note here to mention a new free Word 2003 add-in from Microsoft. If you haven't seen it yet ,it's a divinely simple tool to redact sensitive information from documents.

I had the privilege of helping to test this tool during its development and can tell you that the developers behind this took great pains to make sure that this tool is effective and practical for real-world use.

It's ideal for when you need to remove confidential content from a document without disrupting the original formatting of the overall document.

I could say a lot more about it ... but I'd prefer to hear what you think once you've tried it -- it's a fun little tool. Click here to go to the download page.

Quick formatting note: The tool uses the text shading feature to mark text for redaction. Keep this in mind when redacting documents so that, if you use text shading, you don't use the same shade as the tool (25% gray, if I recall correctly) - so that you don't get any unintended redaction.
