It's the anniversary of Voltaire's birthday today ... and that always warrants a mention. That also always means it's a good day for me ... so I hope you're having a good day as well!
It's Friday. The weather is cold but beautiful in NY. As I sit at my desk and look at the sparkling Wall Street skyline - while preparing to post this note into the ether where it can instantly be read by people anywhere in the world - I have to imagine what Voltaire would think of the world today.
Setting aside for now more serious topics that thought may bring to mind ... what might someone like him have been able to with the extraordinary technology that we take for granted every day? (well, I know that I for one I take it for granted much too often) Would he have used technology to help people? Probably. To change the world? He surely would have tried.
But, for starters, if he was able to sit where I'm sitting and do what I'm doing right now ... I think he would have had one heck of a lot of fun. I think he probably would have giggled the whole time, amazed at what he was able to do. So, in honor of Mr. Arouet's birthday, I will take nothing for granted today. I will pay attention. And, I will have a heck of a lot of fun doing the plain old normal stuff that I do every day. (and maybe even giggle a little bit :)
... and, I'll try to keep a favorite quote (from you know who) in mind ... "The superfluous - a very necessary thing."
