TO ASK A QUESTION: If you have a question or need help with Office, please feel free to use the 'Click to Contact' link at the bottom of this page. You'll get a form that you can use to email a question to me. (I had been getting a ton of spam when accepting direct emails, so only emails that use this form will get through to me.)
Please be sure to mention the version of Office you are using when you send your question.
I answer all e-mails that I receive via this form, as long as they are polite :)
Since disabling comments on this site, I'm actually hearing from more of you with questions ... so, as it seems people prefer to email rather than comment, I'm going to leave comments disabled. As always, you can ask me any Office-related questions you have. If the question is outside of my expertise, I'll try to direct you to where you can get an answer.
Nice Replacement for the Web Toolbar (2007 Office release)
Hi, everybody! Finally got to start working on the latest beta update over this weekend, and ran across something small but nifty that warranted a particular mention...
Awhile back, someone asked me for a way to access the full path name of the file, since the Web toolbar is no longer used. There are a few ways to do this ... ?ActiveDocument.Path (or ActiveWorkbook...or ActivePresentation... depending upon the program in question) in the Immediate window in the VB Editor ... click into the Address Bar in the Save As dialog box, if working in Vista ... copy the path from the Properties dialog box.
BUT - in the Beta 2 Technical Refresh that became available last Thursday to anyone already running Beta 2 ... there's a nice new little addition to the Document Properties pane ...
Click the Office button, point to Prepare, and then click Properties. At the top of the Properties pane that opens, you'll see a Location field - from which you can copy the full file path, similar to the old Web toolbar. Nifty :)
Happy Monday everyone!

Hi, everyone,
Just realized I forgot to mention one of the easiest ways to get the full file path in any document... use the FILENAME field.
Just type "FILENAME \p" ... then select that text, press CTRL+F9 to turn it into a field, followed by F9 to update it and show the result. If you want to use that path as text, you can immediately press CTRL+SHIFT+F9 to remove the field and leave just it's result (the file path text string ).
Happy Wednesday :)
