TO ASK A QUESTION: If you have a question or need help with Office, please feel free to use the 'Click to Contact' link at the bottom of this page. You'll get a form that you can use to email a question to me. (I had been getting a ton of spam when accepting direct emails, so only emails that use this form will get through to me.)
Please be sure to mention the version of Office you are using when you send your question.
I answer all e-mails that I receive via this form, as long as they are polite :)
Since disabling comments on this site, I'm actually hearing from more of you with questions ... so, as it seems people prefer to email rather than comment, I'm going to leave comments disabled. As always, you can ask me any Office-related questions you have. If the question is outside of my expertise, I'll try to direct you to where you can get an answer.
VBA ... It's not just for programmers anymore! (upcoming webcast)
I've long believed that VBA is the most under-utilized feature in Office by far! It dramatically expands the capabilities of the programs, can save enormous amounts of time, and here's one of Office's best kept secrets: it's EASY!
To that end, my upcoming Office System webcast this Thursday Tips and Tricks for Using Basic Word VBA Every Day: It's Much Easier than You Think! is not for programmers. Of course, you're all welcome! The more the merrier! But, this webcast is for Word power users (power users of any Office programs, really!) who want to take Office to the next level.
Have you recorded macros but not written them? Always thought the Visual Basic editor was the domain of programmers? If so, you'll be very pleasantly surprised!
The thing about VBA is that, unlike other programming languages, it's all about automating user features. And, if you know the Office program for which you're using VBA, than you already know most of the language! For example ... the objects in Word VBA are called Documents, Tables, Paragraphs, Fields, etc.
Thursday's webcast will introduce you to some of the basic building blocks of VBA ... show you how to edit your recorded macros and how to write basic macros yourself ... to save time and get more out of Word every day!
There are no VBA prerequisites for Thursday, but if you've never ventured into the Visual Basic Editor ... you might want to record a macro and then just look at it in the VB Editor -- so that Thursday isn't the first time you're seeing the VB Editor or looking at a piece of VBA code. We're going to cover a lot of ground pretty fast. But, this webcast will not assume any previous VBA knowledge at all -- and I will make the code used in the webcast available afterward for review, to anyone who attends.
While you don't need any prior VBA experience, I do recommend that those attending the webcast be pretty comfortable as a Word user. It will all make much more sense and be easier to keep up if you're familiar with the user features we will be automating (nothing extreme -- I'll be using table formatting and a few other general document production features for examples).
I'm very excited about this event -- and I look forward to seeing you on Thursday! If you have questions in advance of the session, don't hesitate to post!
