TO ASK A QUESTION: If you have a question or need help with Office, please feel free to use the 'Click to Contact' link at the bottom of this page. You'll get a form that you can use to email a question to me. (I had been getting a ton of spam when accepting direct emails, so only emails that use this form will get through to me.)
Please be sure to mention the version of Office you are using when you send your question.
I answer all e-mails that I receive via this form, as long as they are polite :)
Since disabling comments on this site, I'm actually hearing from more of you with questions ... so, as it seems people prefer to email rather than comment, I'm going to leave comments disabled. As always, you can ask me any Office-related questions you have. If the question is outside of my expertise, I'll try to direct you to where you can get an answer.
A Cool Tip For Editing Data Directly on Excel Charts
In last Thursday's webcast, one of the tips I demonstrated was to change data directly on a scatter or other value\value chart by just dragging a data point. Very cool, yes ... BUT ... Jon Peltier, a talented Excel MVP who attended that session, pointed out an extension of that tip that really should be shared ...
You can, in fact, drag data points to change the data directly on category\value charts (i.e., bars, lines, columns, etc.) as well. Instead of dragging to change the data for either axis, you can only change the data for the value axis ... but it's really quite fun :) For example --
Select a single column in a column chart, then hover your mouse pointer over the top edge of the column, and the mouse pointer will change to a double-backed arrow. Then you can click and drag the column up or down the value axis.
Remember, of course, when you change data points on any kind of chart ... the change will be reflected in your source data -- just as if you'd changed it on the data worksheet.
Thanks, Jon! Jon's website is also a great resource for Excel charting tips and tutorials. Check it out if you have a chance...
